Subaru isn’t changing much when it comes to the 2017 Subaru Outback, and for good reason. They will be adding a new trim level in the Touring model, which includes several new upgrades for the crossover. Most of these upgrades are cosmetic in nature, which speaks more to the excellence of Subaru’s flagship model, than the need to change anything that’s not broken. Although there isn’t much to the 2017 Subaru Outback updates, there are some small changes that increases value for this crossover.

For crossover shoppers the Outback has been an excellent choice, providing an great platform for most new car buyers. Over the past 53 months it’s led it’s class, which is why Subaru isn’t changing much when it comes to Subaru Outback updates for the 2017 model year. If you are in the market for a new crossover, take a look at some of the upgrades in the new Outback below.

The five-passenger crossover still comes with the standard Subaru four or six cylinder engine options. The all new Touring flagship gets a host of visual and styling cues to help it stand apart from the competition.

Performance – The Subaru Outback returns with the 2.5 liter lineup of engines, along with a six cylinder option. The base engine produces 170 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Coupled to Subaru’s all wheel drive system, there’s few crossovers that rival the positive footprint and traction of the Outback. For those that want more power, the 3.6R trim comes with a 3.6 liter engine that produces 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.

Powertrain – Much like the engine choices, there’s not much that’s changed in Subaru Outback updates when it comes to transmission choices. Either engine is paired to Subaru’s continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2017 Subaru Outback comes with paddle shifters that grant drivers some semblance of manual-type gear control.

Unchanged among the Subaru Outback changes, the Subaru Active Torque Split AWD system is standard. This power train option gives every Outback fantastic traction and excellent handling characteristics regardless of road conditions.

Styling – Along with a slightly tweaked front grille and darker trim accents, the Outback gets minor styling upgrades for the new year. The 2017 Outback comes with white stitched leather upholstery, that perfects compliments interior elements. The center console has been slightly tweaked, and the new Touring model gets several upgrades to standard safety features.

Safety – The Subaru Outback updates include several upgrades to the autonomous braking and safety system known as Subaru Eyesight. The Outback will assist the driver in preventing a collision while backing up, as well as automatic high-beam-headlight activation and dimming.

The upgrades among the Subaru Outback updates may be minor, but there’s no question to the overall value of this crossover. One of the best options for a slimmer, less bulkier crossover, the Outback is an excellent combination of performance and safety.
